WhatsApp is a consent-first channel. To message people who are not in an open conversation with you, two things matter: opt-in and approved templates.
Opt-in
Before you send proactive messages, people should agree to hear from you. You can collect opt-in through:
- Website widgets and click-to-chat links.
- A reply to a message they started.
- Checkboxes and forms where the purpose is clear.
Keeping a genuine opted-in list protects your number's quality and respects the people you message. Always offer an easy way to opt out.
Message templates
Proactive messages outside the customer service window use templates that WhatsApp reviews. Templates can include variables (like a name or an order number) that you fill in per contact.
- Templates fall into categories such as marketing, utility and authentication.
- Approval is handled by WhatsApp, and category rules can change.
- Pricing for sending messages is set by WhatsApp and is separate from your VPmessage subscription.
Because template approval and messaging charges are controlled by WhatsApp — not by VPmessage — this guide does not quote fixed approval times or per-message prices. Check current details in your account or with support.
Sending a campaign
- Build or import an opted-in segment using tags and attributes.
- Choose an approved template and fill in variables.
- Schedule or send, then track delivery in reporting.
